Harry Abbey (on the right) may rank as one of the nicest and kindest persons to ever work on the Floor. He was a long time Floor Governor when I started in 1965. Harry passed away in his 90th. year in 1991.

The following is a letter to the Globe and Mail just prior to Harry passing away.

How are you, Mr. Abbey?

On the morning of June 6, on my way to work, a southbound Bathurst streetcar that I was travelling on short turned at College. An elderly gentleman, who had gotten off the same streetcar, proceeded to cross College. He fell in the middle of the road, and was bleeding from a deep cut to his forhead.
What disturbs me more than the fact that this man was alone, hurt and very shaken up, is the fact that out of about 50 persons standing in the area and dozens of cars driving by, I was the only person to assist Harry Abbey. I am thoroughly disgusted and appalled at the fact that the majority of the people in this city will stand and stare or pass by an elderly person needing assistance. It only takes a moment to help and just as Mr. Abbey was, I'm sure that that person will be very grateful.
Lastly, to dear Mr. Abbey, thank you ever so much for the lovely card you sent me and I'd love for you to call, so that you can let me know how you're doing.
